The State Government, has promised to revive the Famous Rivers State College of Art and Science Rumuola, popularly known as RIVCAS.
Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi stated this at the Rivers State House of Assembly Auditorium during the second Claude Ake Memorial lecture in Port Harcourt.
The Governor said that Rivers State College of Art and Science which has contributed to the development of man-power in the State will be elevated as the State centre for advance social science.
He emphasized that to immortalize one of the African’s first social crusader, Professor Claude Ake, the Governor promised that the Rivcas will now host a professorial chair on Advance Social Science.
Prof. George Obizor who is the Chairman of the occasion, described Professor Ake as a vibrant social crusader whose gesture is to liberate the African economy.
Earlier, Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambers, former Ecowas President noted that this year memorial Topic “ Combating the Resources Curse: Strategy for Economic transformation in a Natural Resource-Rich Economy”, is geared towards encouraging Nigerian’s to shun corruption and re-diversify from oil natural Resources to other sectors like Agriculture, Cocoa production.
He also admonished the leader to embark on projects that have direct and meaningful bearing on citizenry.
The dignitaries who attended the lecture include, the Speaker Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Otelemaba Daniel Amachree, Justice Adolphus Karibi Whyte, Amb. Nkoyo Toyo member House Representative, H.R.M. Godwin N.K. Giniwa Chairman Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, Dr. Ukoha Ukiwo, a lecture from the Department of Political and Administrative Studies Uniport, and Hon. Augustine Nwokocha Commissioner for Power.
