Okrika: Treat The Women Right – Chairman

The Okrika Local government chairman, Hon. Barr. Tamuno Williams has confided in the press that women are very important members of the society, who play vital role for peace and development of the nation, making the men to strive in their endeavour and that if the society will go further women must be loved and treated right.

The Okrika council boss disclosed this in his office shortly after the International Women Day celebration held in the council pointing out that women are important in nation building, committed and good performers in the areas allotted to them in government appointments and that bringing them down is to bring down the society.

The wife of the council boss in her welcome address said that the theme of the celebration, “the gender agenda maintaining the momentum” is appropriate and timely as it is intended to make them vigilant and press further to ensure that the gains already made is maintained and consolidated upon.

She lauded Mrs. Judith Amaechi wife of the state Governor for the increased number of women in positions of trust in the state having, made 3 in Okrika female councilors out of which one Hon. Tammy is the leader of the legislative council. She said that the governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi did not let the women down but appointed them into political position of trust, citing Ministry of Information, Education, Greater Port Harcourt City Agency, Internal Revenue Board of Rivers State, among others as examples.

The Commissioner for Information Mrs. Ibim Seminatari told the press that it’s time to sensitize the women making them to know that they have greater roles to play and that they have to complement the men to make the society a living place for all.

The guest lecturer at the event, Iminabo A. Okoroafor, told the women that they have to keep the home, train, their children the way they will not come out to become wayward, but to fit in the society in the normal way so that peace will reign, explaining that without peace in place they can not trade and the business will crumble.

She further told the women not to trade on false rumour as the market place is one of the places where false rumour are carried. The lecturer challenged women to find out whatever rumour that come around them in the market is correct or not before they join in spreading it. ###
