The Sapele Divisional Police Station, Sapele Local Government Area has foiled a robbery incident at United Bank for Africa Plc on. They arrested a gang of armed robbers that specializes in robbing customers of their valuables.
It was learnt that two of the robbers who were arrested had earlier pretended to be motorcycle riders. They had succeeded in robbing their victims who drove in a dark Toyota Camry car of N200,000.
A source said that luck ran against them when their victim alerted the police and passers-by who chased the robbers before the police apprehended them.
Items recovered from the hoodlums includes two locally made short guns and the N200,000.
When paraded, the suspects confessed to have been involved in several robbery incidents and 419 businesses for over five years. They also confessed that their gangs are always at strategic positions in Sapele and its environs disguised as commercial motorcycle riders.
The Divisional Police Officer, Mr. Kenneth Akugbue who led the operation, however, assured residents that his men are committed to flushing out all criminals in the area. He warned that commercial motorcycles riders should shun all acts capable of breaching the peace in the area. He further noted that robbers have taken advantage of commercial motor cycle operators in the area to penetrate evil. ###
