The Nigeria Police Games has been given as one in search of talented sportsmen and women who will represent Nigeria at Northern Ireland when the World Police Games will start.
Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar made this revelation when addressing spectators of the 10th biennial police games at liberation stadium at Elekahia on 3rd March, 2013 at the games opening ceremony.
The game was declared opened with march past and colourful display from police children school, musicians and participating zones in the police rank and file.
Uniquely, Tug-of-War was also introduced between the Nigeria Airforce and the Nigeria Navy, who eventually lost the two legs to the Nigeria Airforce.
Earlier, the police senior officers’ wives on white took on their police junior officers who were on green colours, losing to their senior in the Tug of war contest.
The host governor, Chibuike Amaechi simply welcomed the participating zones in the police rank and file and charged them to be fair and enjoy the good hospitality of the Rivers people, saying that because there is peace in Rivers State he considered to host the police games in the state.
Sports Minister, Bolaji Abudullahi represented President Goodluck Jonathan, and advised the participating zones to be open minded in showcasing their talents with the spirit of sport men and women and compete favourably, adding that the Nigeria police had always come handy when it mattered most as the force had contributed in producing seasoned sports champions for the country over the years.

First of its kind male and female mixed relay was also introduced in police games with Zone 2 coming first with total record of 43:84 second, followed by zone 7, Zone 7 also claimed the third position in the relay.
Lots of dignitaries graced the occasion notable amongst them, are the governors of Bayelsa and Gombe State among others.
Idris Abdukareem, Oba Omega Mustapha from Katsina and Kennis Brown a female musician from Lagos lighted up the ceremony with their musical performances. ###
