The Rivers State College of Arts and Science Provost annual soccer cup will kick-off on Monday next week.
Revealing this, the organizer of the competition, Dr. Dagogo Wokoma said, the foremost inter-departmental soccer competition has come to stay which the provost of the school has over the years sustained to the surprise of many administrators.
According to Dr. Wokoma, popularly known as Bishop, this year’s competition will not be different from previous competitions, as the usual interdepartmental fixture would still be maintained. The venue as usual remains the RIVCAS School football pitch, time and every format will still be maintained, asking students of the institution to maintain high level of discipline to ensure a successful competition.
The competition had produced lots of wave making soccer talents for the state-owned clubsides, Dolphins and Sharks football clubs.
Last year an attacking midfielder was discovered in the person of Baridon which wore Jersey No. 4 featuring for management science. Hoping that more talents would be discovered in this year’s competition. The competition has been commended by soccer pundits as one that needed to be encouraged in the higher institution level.
The aim and objective of the competition is given as a preparatory forum for the institution to discover enough soccer talents to represent this year’s All Nigeria Games coming up later in the year.
Players that distinguished themselves will have the privilege of securing scholarship from the provost and the school governing body, apart from being invited to premier clubsides and the national junior teams of the country.
Best behaved team, most disciplined team and player are all in the plans of the sponsor, the provost, Dr. H. Wordu.
Prizes will be given to deserving players and team, like best players’ award, highest goal scorer most valuable player and best goalkeeper of the competition. All will go home with a prize in addition to their trophies. ###
