Oyigbo: RSIEC Cancels Re-run Election, As APGA Claims Victory

The Rivers State chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) Mr. Terry Godfrey has called on the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to declare APGA candidate winner of the ward 8 councillorship re-run election and disqualify the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) councillorship candidate for aiding violence and destruction of electoral materials after a free and fair election in the area.

Mr. Godfrey stated this shortly after the Electoral Officer of the last Saturday re-run election has alleged that some units results in Oyigbo were hijacked by some hoodlums at Oyigbo LGA.

Mr. Godfrey who expressed optimism that the APGA candidate will emerge winner at the end of the election, urged the state chairman of RSIEC to declare the APGA candidate winner of the election without delay for justice and equity.

Also speaking the Peoples Democratic Party chairman in the Oyigbo LGA, Mr. Chijoke Azu called for the cancellation of the said poll alleging that the election was inconclusive, stressing that the PDP in the area would not accept any result if there is no evidence to prove the true reflection of the collected result from all the units in the ward.

It would be recalled that the problem of the Oyigbo election started when unidentified persons hijacked the result sheet. When contacted the commissioner in charge of Media and Publicity, Mrs. Ibiso Dakoru, sid the commission will come up with statement on the matter later.

In a statement issued by professor Augustine Ahiauzu the RSIEC chairman after the elections disclosed that the election in ward 8 Oyigbo has been cancelled as a result of irregularities recorded at the ward during the election. ###
