Rivers: Commissioner OF Police Commissions Admin Block

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police Mohammed Indabawa has commissioned an ultra modern Police station. The project which was commissioned recently in Port Harcourt, the state capital is at the Mini-Okoro Police Station.

The Police Commissioner commended the initiator of the project, the quality of the job and honour done to the police by siting the project at the station and giving the edifice as administrative block to the command.

Indabawa used the occasion to thank the chiefs and the people of Oginigba in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State for their supportive role in combating crime in the area.

The Police Chief tasked the people to jealously guard the project to avoid the repetition of the accident that occur there some years ago.

In his speech, a one time Deputy Governor of Rivers State HRM, Prof. Frank Eke the Eze Gbakagbaka, Evo Kingdom said he was particularly impressed about the project. Eze Gbakagbaka maintained that security is the business of everybody and should be seen as one not only done by the federal, state and local government, but by every individual knowing the importance of security in the protection of lives and property.

Eze Prof. Eke advised the government to pay more attention to the security situation in the country, especially the killing of innocent citizens by the Boko Haram.

He described the killing as barbaric and that the federal government should do everything possible to stop the trend.

In his welcome address the Divisional Police Officer, DPO incharge of Mini-Okoro Division, Tony Odifa stated that the new administrative office will enable police to do their work creditably with justice and rule of law. The DPO maintained that officers of the Division can work without any molestation.

The DPO described the incident that led to the bombing of the police station as sad but assured all that the ugly incident will never repeat itself.

It could be recalled that some years ago some militants in their large numbers stormed the Mini-Okoro Police station and bombed the place that caused havoc and great devastation.

The DPO used the occasion to thank the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Indabawa for personally coming to commission the station and the presence of all the chiefs.

In an interview shortly after the House of Assembly former member representing Obio/Akpor Constituency, Hon. Collins Odu said the project is the gesture by the Rivers State government under his constituency project when he was in the House.

Hon. Odu stated that he chose the police Administrative block as his constituency project because of the dilapidated and dehumanizing working condition of the police, hence he sought the mandate from the House which have a quick approval.

In another development the paramount ruler of the community, Eze Barr. Temple Ejekwu told journalists that they are very happy for the constituency project initiated and completed by Hon. Collins Odu even when he left office.

The paramount ruler urged other politicians to emulate the former Rivers State House of Assembly member, promising to work with PCRC members to maintain the project.###
