Rivers: Police Kill 35 Armed Robbery Suspects, Arrest 67 Others

The Rivers State Police Command said it has fatally wounded (killed) 35 armed robbery suspects and arrested 67 others involved in either cultism, pipeline vandalization and sundry crimes in January, 2013. this was disclosed recently by the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Indabawa in Port Harcourt while briefing the press on the activities of his command in January this year.
The CP also said that 17 kidnap suspects were also arrested, while 2 were fatally wounded in different operations across the state.
The statement also said that 129 ammunition, 21 Ak-47 rifles and 12 vehicles, were also recovered from suspects, stressing that 13 suspected cultists and three oil pipeline vandals were equally arrested during the month under review.
He said the success recorded in the first month of the year was due to the cooperation given to the men and officers of the force by members of the public and lauded the press for their support to the command during the past years.
He restated the commitment of the command in ensuring that lives and property were protected across all the communities in the state, adding that his command had resolved to promoting a peaceful environment devoid of robbery and terrorism, and called on members of the public to assist the police to combat crime in the state.
The Police Commissioner also thanked the state government for its assistance to the command, as well as other security agencies for their collaboration with the police in a bid to ensure that there is no hiding place for criminals in Rivers State.
In his response, the chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council, Mr. Opaka Dokubo thanked the state police command for the cordial relationship existing between members of the union and the police in the state.
Dokubo expressed satisfaction with the performance of the police in crime fighting in the state and appealed to them to sustain the tempo. ###
