PDP Accuses Abuja Politicians of Plans To Destabilize R/State

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State says it has uncovered a plot hatched by enemies of the State and government in Abuja, in connivance with a faction of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN in Rivers State, to destabilize the State. The ruling party said also it had unmasked the arrowheads of the destabilization agenda, describing them as a cluster of Abuja politicians who want to use the factional ACN to cause disunity, discord and disharmony.
In a statement in Port Harcourt by Mr. George Ukwuoma-Nwogba, the State Publicity Secretary, PDP said it is in possession of “hard evidence” of the plot and those behind it saying that the sole aim of the perpetrators is to undermine the current peace, progress and stability in the state. The PDP revealed that the group had held several meetings in Abuja and Port Harcourt.
“Sad at the current peace, progress and stability in the State, the perpetrators of this evil plot have decided to build a situation of panic through cheap propaganda, cause mayhem and create violence across Rivers State. The continued media propaganda against the Administration of Governor Chibuike Amaechi is meant to indoctrinate the good people of our state.
“In furtherance of their nefarious plot, a petition written by this Abuja group will be given to Mr. Jerry Needam, the publicity secretary of the factional ACN in the state to sign, inviting the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to investigate the Administration of Governor Amaechi over fictitious gross abuse of public funds, and cause to be published as advertorials in several national and local newspapers. The idea is to heat up the State as much as possible and distract Governor Amaechi. In recent times, this group had run disparaging advertorials in some national daily newspapers. Conscious of the questionable public curriculum vitae the men in the Rivers State ACN parade and aware that their axiom had been “If you miss the ball, don’t miss the leg,” the PDP has no option but to put the good people of Rivers State on the alert and to warn them to beware of the factional opposition so-called.”
Continuing, Ukwuoma-Nwogba asserted that the allegations raised in the said petition are nothing but pigments of the authors’ imagination fabricated with the sole aim to embarrass both the Government and people Rivers State an heat-up the system.
“The PDP as the ruling party in Rivers State runs a transparent administration which is always open to unbiased scrutiny. The state administration will welcome any sincere, apolitical, genuine and unbiased enquiry into how the State’s funds had been managed in the last five years. In fact, such enquirers will not need to go far to see how the state has been turned into one huge arena of construction and infrastructure,” Ukwuoma-Nwogba added.
While condemning the plot, PDP said it had become imperative for security agencies to question the leadership of this factional ACN in the state, whose face is the Jerry Needam, to further unravel their financiers as well as the foot-soldiers they have recruited.
“We are therefore calling on security agencies in the State to investigate the arrowheads of this plot and bring them to face justice. Politics is not about destabilization but service to the people. All well-meaning citizens of Rivers State should join in condemning this dangerous trend the factional ACN is importing into our peaceful State. We cannot afford to surrender our hard-earned freedom for a spoon of porridge; neither would we allow the blood of any Rivers man, woman, youth or child be shed by the factional ACN and their cohorts. It’s time for Rivers people to ask whose interest Jerry Needam represents; who is using him to cause disaffection in the State. We are all aware that another faction of ACN in the State had disowned him as their spokesman. So who does Jerry Needam speak for?
All political, religious, traditional and opinion leaders should reject these antics resorted to by the Jerry Needam faction of the ACN in Rivers State.”
