The paramount Ruler of Bodo Community in Gokana LGA of Rivers State, HRH King Felix Sunday Berebon has over the weekend, dissolved the Council of Chiefs and Elders of Bodo.
King Berebon stated that the reason for the dissolution was as a result of internal wrangling and insubordination since the installation of the last chairman of council of chiefs and Elders, Chief Sylvester Kogbara.
The paramount ruler maintained that for peace to return to the community, he had no other option than to dissolve the council to allow peace to reign since he is a man of peace.
The king further directed that henceforth he would speak through a former Community Development Committee Chairman (CDC) and former chairman, Gokana Local Government Council, Hon. Chief Livinus Kiebel.
Addressing the people of Bodo City at the town square, the chairman of Gokana Local Government Area, Hon. Ledee Demue Ledee told the people that the dissolution of the council of Elders is to bring people of different factions in the area together.
Hon. Demue stated that there was great misunderstanding among those quarrelling because some people alleged the issues of politics while others attributed the problem to Shell Development Company.
The council chairman emphatically stated that the council would not be involved in anything that would bring crises to Bodo.
He told the crowd that as long as the paramount ruler was alive, whatever he said was is what government would act upon.
He used the occasion to appeal to the youths to maintain peace and stability, promising that the council will do everything to end the crisis.
The chairman warned that nobody should use this period to misdirect and send any message pending the seven days given for the peace-deal.
He also used the opportunity to advise the youths not to allow anybody to use them to achieve his personal interest, reminding the people that he is a stakeholder since he married from Bodo. ###
