The 36 state governors, under the platform of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) has decried the handling of Excess Crude Account by the Federal Government and resolved to allow the Supreme Court make its ruling on the case which has been pending for a long time.
The federal government has made several attempts for out of court settlement on the case with the governors who went to court describing the deductions by the Federal Government as illegal. Unfortunately all attempts have failed.
The governors stated this after their meeting in Abuja chaired by the Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
More so, the governors also “declared their confidence in the Chairman and endorsed his leadership as head of the Forum”.
According to the resolution arrived at after their meeting, the Chairman, Amaechi, said the “Forum decries the present attitude of the Federal Government on Excess Crude Account and resolves to take no further adjournments in the subsisting case in court but to seek a final resolution of the matter from the Supreme Court.”
Reacting to a statement by former Minister of Information, Chief Edwin Clark who blasted the Forum for becoming the opposition to the Federal Government, Amaechi said “No. Chief Edwin Clark is an elder states man, we are not going to respond to him.”
Speaking also on the health Enugu state governor, Sullivan Chime the Chairman said “I talked with him, put him on the phone to an editor (not leadership) who is my friend. It was real.”
Amaechi in the communique also said the “Forum agreed to hold a two-day retreat to deliberate on the current state of security of the country.”
He however said the committee is working on the details of the programme and date when they submit their report to the committee.
On the rising incidents of Polio in the country, he said “Forum unanimously agreed to lead the efforts of eradicate polio by instituting the following:
“A monthly campaign to be headed by Governors in all 36 states of the federation to promote healthy environmental habits;
“Governors from non-polio states will support their counterparts in affected states by joining them in their states during upcoming national polio campaign;
“To meet with Presidential Task Force on Polio Eradication in order to identify current funding gaps and challenges against polio eradication in Nigeria.
“The Forum remains resolute in the development of our different states for the benefit of the nation and our citizens.”
States represented at the meeting include; Abia, Kogi, kaduna, Imo, Akwa Ibom, Benue, kwara, Adamawa, Ogun, Lagos, Ekiti, Jigawa, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Nasarawa, Taraba, kano, Sokoto, Bauchi, Ondo, Oyo, Anambra.
