Rev (Dr) Sokari Benjamin Obu Soberekon, the Agitator and Establisher of Oil Derivation in 1981, has said that it is wrong for Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers state to be classified as one of those who own a private jet in Nigeria, stressing that the Governor did not buy the jet for private use but as official tool for maximum performance.
Dr. Sokari therefore, called on Nigerian’s remove the name of Governor Rotimi Amaechi of River’s State from the listed 44 Nigerian’s jet owners. Advising them not to entangle his name, or incriminate him while in the office.
According to the man of God, immunity covers Amaechi as a Governor while in the office and he cannot be questioned during his tenure in office.
The frontline activist and Elder statement, however advised the Government to construct the proposed Refinery that will be useful to the Niger Delta region stead of investing on aircraft. He stated that anybody holding a public office is not morally wise to purchase a private jet.
Explaining that any tool acquired while still in the office is for official use not personal, he suggested that more helicopter should be purchase instead of private jet.
The Humanities Doctor, said he had suggested the same thing during the rule of Ernest Adeleye when he was the Military Governor of Rivers State and the then Commissioner of Health, Dema Fiberesima but they couldn’t do it because of lack of funds hoping that now that Rivers State is improving in every area, the Governor should also help to move the state and the people forward.
