The Rivers State House of Assembly has cleared Barr. Dickson Omunakwe as commissioner’s nominee.
The Rivers State Governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi had during the end of 2012 year party at the Government House Port Harcourt announced the sack of Hon. Emeka Nwogu, the State Commissioner for Special Duties for incompetence and nominated Barr. Dickson Omunakwe, his former Special Adviser on pollution matters and forwarded the letter to the Rivers State House of Assembly for screening.
Appearing before the lawmakers at the Hallow Chamber for the screening last Wednesday the lawmakers failed to screened him on the ground that he failed to come with the original copies of his credentials.
During the screening, on Monday the lawmakers, there was controversy over the commissioner nominees, change of name without affidavit. Golden Chioma, lawmaker representing Etche Constituency 2 in the State House of Assembly tried in vain to pacify the House while contributing to the screening exercise.
According to him, “having found him not wanting in his former office as Special Adviser to the Rivers State government on pollution and as a true son of Etche ethnic Nationality he should be allowed to take a bowed and leave.
In his contribution, Hon. Paul Ngo Abu-Odual Constituency, while supporting Hon. Chioma described the commissioner nominee as a competent legal luminary and former S.A to the Rivers State government and prayed the House to allow him bow and leave the Hallowed Chamber.
In his ruling, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Otelemaba Dan Amachree while confirming the nominee put his clearance on vote, none of the lawmakers voted against.
In a chat with journalists shortly after, the screening, Omunakwe who expressed satisfaction with the screening exercise, noted that the lawmakers were performing their legislative duties and promised to live up to expectation. ###
