RIVCAS Honours First Sets HND Graduands

The Rivers State College of Arts and Science, on Tuesday, 8th January 2013, welcome its first set of Higher National Diploma (HND) graduands in Accountancy in a special get-together held at the institution’s conference Hall.
The event witnessed a large turn-out of people who came to identify and congratulate the graduands, some of who are currently doing their National Youth Service Corps assignment.
In his opening remarks, chairman of the occasion, Chief Hon. Allwell Onyesoh, a former lecturer at the college, congratulated the graduands as well as the institution’s management.
He noted that the school started as a remedial institute but had grown to become one of the best institutions in Nigeria, expressing hope that it will one day award degrees.
In his own speech, the provost of the college, Dr. Hillary Wordu congratulated the graduands, adding that they will forever remain as icons of the institution’s achievement.
Dr. Wordu noted that Chief Allwell Onyesoh had greatly assisted in the development of the school, first as lecturer and later as commissioner for education.
The provost thanked Governor Amaechi for his continued support to the college and advised the graduands to remain good ambassadors of the college.
Chairman of the 6th governing council of the institution, Dr. Mrs. Soba M. Wilcox, in her address said that the NYSC call-up of the first HND graduands of the College was a sign that the College was on course to becoming a first class polytechnic and one of the fast growing institutions in Nigeria.
She stated that the institution started as Rivers State School of Basic Studies in 1977 before being upgraded to a college on 21st January 1991 by an edict of Rivers State government and thanked governor Amaechi his support, while appealing for a change in the nomenclature of the school to reflect its achievements.
Earlier, the Acting HOD of Accountancy, Abraham Erekoro, had disclosed that the department started as management science, expressing joy that it has finally grown to become what it is today. ####
