The Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), Senator Magnus Abe has charged journalists to see their profession as a sacred responsibility created to better society.
Speaking during an interactive session with Journalists from his Senatorial District in Bera, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State, he prescribed professionalism and objectivity in the reportage of events as ways of enhancing societal growth.
The Senator who represents Rivers South-East in the National Assembly noted that “objective reportage earns respect”, just as he welcomed suggestions that would move the area forward.
While thanking the journalists for their support and positive sentiments about his modest efforts, Senator Abe sued for hard-work and unity among the media practitioners.
Earlier, the Chairman, Ogoni Journalists Platform (OJP), Barivule Akpo, who spoke on behalf of the group, stated that the session has afforded journalists from the senatorial district an opportunity to interact with their political representative.
He thanked Senator Abe for carrying the people along and urged other political representatives from the area to emulate his kind gesture.
Journalists from Andoni, Eleme, Gokana, Khana, Opobo/Nkoro, Oyigbo, and Tai attended the session.
Meanwhile, Senator Magnus Abe says he will partner youths in the district with good ideas to create prosperity.
Speaking during the 2nd annual interactive session with youths in the Senatorial District in Bera, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers state, Senator Abe sued for ideas that would add value to their existence.
“The things that are important to you are the things that are important to me, because your progress, your prosperity, your happiness, your well-being gives me satisfaction; there is no house I would build, there is no car I would drive that would give me more happiness than to see that my people are happy. So, we must work together. That is the message I have”.
Senator Abe disclosed that resources at his disposal would be spent to help add value to the lives of the people of the district, stressed that “for every gift from God we must show appreciation to our fellowmen”.
The facilitator of the interactive session, Comrade Kadilo Kabari said the interactive session was to examine the Senator’s legislative agenda for the youth and thanked him for his various contributions to the development of the district.
In an interview, a cross-section of the youths praised Senator Abe for continuous assistance to the people especially his constituency projects located in Oyigbo and Khana Local Government Areas of the senatorial district.
Chairman National Youth Council of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter, Comrade Kingsley Igbanichuka said through the interactive session the Senator has brought governance much closer to the people.
“It is quite amazing. On behalf of the youths of Rivers State the very first thing we want to say is a big thank you to the distinguished Senator Magnus Ngei Abe. With this development, he has brought governance closer to his locality; I think this is a laudable achievement.
He disclosed that Rivers Youths are happy with the Senator describing him as very approachable and a worthy representative of his people very well.
Speaking, immediate past Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter, Comrade Bethel Oko-jaja said the interactive session had exposed so many youth to governance and legislation, just as Hon. Danson Gibson commended the Senator for assisting people and communities across the senatorial district.
