The chairman of Opobo/Nkoro LGA, Hon. Maclean Uranta was on December 24th 2012 conferred with the honourary fellowship of Nigerian Chartered Institute of Public Administrators (NCIPA) by the South-South Coordinator of the programme, Prof. Godwin O. C. Obia.
The ceremony was held at the Institutes temporary office at 50 Ikwerre Road, Mile 1, Diobu, Port Harcourt.
Speaking at the occasion, the coordinator of the institute (South-South), Prof. Godwin Obia revealed that Hon. Maclean Uranta was the second LGA chairman in the south-south to receive such an honour after it was first conferred on Hon. Azubuike Nmerukini, the former chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Council.
Prof. Obia said the award was not for sale as NCIPA was a professional body and only honour people who have performed creditably in their chosen careers.
Noting that Hon. Maclean Uranta has performed well as chairman of ONOLGA, Obia charged him not to relent in his good work but should continue to maintain the tempo.
Responding, Hon. Maclean Uranta expressed joy at the honour, describing it as an overwhelming recognition.
The Opobo/Nkoro chairman said he did not know that people were monitoring and recording his achievements, promising to do more by God’s grace, to justify the honour.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the ceremony, Hon. Uranta said that if he was the second chairman to be awarded by the institute in the whole south-south, it meant the body takes time in selecting awardees.
Uranta who said he does not take awards, said he accepted it when he learnt he was the second, adding that it showed diligence. ###
