Amnesty International To Establish Community Radio In P.H

Amnesty International is said to have concluded arrangement to establish a community based radio station in an undisclosed area of Port Harcourt metropolis, an inside source confided in this medium.
According to he source, the radio broadcasting personnel would be trained by an organization called Collaborative Media Advocacy Platform (CMAP), under the project of Chicoco Radio Community according to BBC standard.
The trainees are expected to be engaged in basic radio journalism, computer studies, speech presentation, and music, among others.
The programme which would run simultaneously for weeks will offer basic intermediate and advance studies according to trainee’s choice of time.
According to the source, the body had concluded CAC registration, maintaining that “it is only in this part of the world that the community radio station has not been established”.
This medium gathered that the reportage of the community radio personnel (journalists) would focus on the activities of waterfronts and rural dwellers as well as violation of human rights.
Mr. Fubara Tokuibiye Samuel PRO, Concerned Citizens of Wakirike Ijaw said Chicoco is the community project that bears the development of physical property as for as waterfronts building are concerned, pointing out that waterfronts development started through the use of marshy muds (Chico) individual’s efforts, Mr. Samuel explained that the community radio station was real, irrespective of NBC’s focus to achieving same, adding that communities indigenes would have their voices to some extent.
Mr. Samuel who is also the community engagement manager of Collaboration Media Advocacy Platform (CMAP) further explained that at Ogbia in Bayelsa State, community Radio station has been established, though not operating, as the one in Port Harcourt awaits its approval even as Ogu/Bolo get sets to establish one.
It would be recalled that Community Radio Broadcasting Station was fostered by the Nigeria Broadcasting Corporation through its Director General, Dr. Yomi Bolarinran, when the body marked its 20 years of successful broadcasting in September 2012 and subsequent licensing of 402 operational broadcasting.
It would also be recalled that the siting of Amnesty International office in one of the Port Harcourt Aborigines communities had been made public sometime in 2012. ###
