R/S Police Command Foils Armed Robbery Operation, Rescue 4 Corpers

The Rivers State Police Command has foiled another armed robbery operation at Elekahia Housing Estate. Information sent to The Newswriter by the State Command Police Public Relations Officer has it that at about 21:00hours on the 1st of December, 2012, a distress call was received that armed men in a car were sighted shooting around Elekahia Housing Estate.
The PPRO said without wasting time the anti robbery squad from Elekahia Police Division responded swiftly and engaged the hoodlums along Second Avenue Elekahia Housing estate, Port Harcourt, in a gun battle. The information indicates that one of hoodlums was fatally wounded, while the operational car used by the hoodlums, a vento registration number, Rivers AHD 27AA was recovered.
The information added that a search inside the car revealed four expended shells of 5:56mm ammunitions, three mobile phones and a spare number plate, ABIA AE771 BND and a rifle handle. Other suspects in the vehicle escaped. The command stated that investigation is in progress.
In the same vein, on the 30th of November, 2012, the Rivers State Police Command rescued four female youth Corpers in Oyigbo who were terrorized as they were robbed and kidnapped from their NYSC transit camp.
According to the information by the Rivers State Police Command Police Public Relations Officer, at about 02:3hours on the 30th of November, 2012 information was received that same date about 01:15hours, a gang of about seven armed bandits gained entrance into NYSC transit camp (Iriebe through the fallen part of the part of the wall fence, entered the Corpers rooms through the windows cum doors that had no burglary proofs, and stole their cellphones, laptops and cash.
Continuing the information has it that the hoodlums also abducted four of the female Corpers which ignited the Oyigbo Police Division to swiftly mobilize to the scene and gave the hoodlums a lot chase of their lives towards Egbelu/Oyigbo West axis.
Seeing that they have lost the battle, the hoodlums abandoned the girls as the police close on them and disappeared into the bush. Some of the Corpers that sustained minor injuries were taken to the Hospital for treatment.
According to the PPRO, investigation is in progress to arrest the fleeing suspects and to recover the stolen items.
Meanwhile, the state police command has appealed to residents of the state to cooperate with the command by reporting any suspected strange movement and activities in their area so to make the job easy for the police to keep a crises free.###
