In keeping with its mandate to quicken the pace of development in the Niger Delta region, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has inaugurated 46 projects in different parts of Rivers State.
They include roads, solar-powered water, classroom blocks, cottage hospital/comprehensive health centres and rural electrification.
The projects, situated in various local government areas of the state, were inaugurated by the Rivers State representative on the Board of the NDDC, Professor Ibitamuno Aminigo and Dr. Enyia Akawagaga, Director in the state office on behalf of the Commission’s Managing Director, Dr. Christian Oboh.
Dr. Oboh said the Board actions so far have been guided by President Goodluck Jonathan’s transformation agenda with special emphasis on increasing the tempo of infrastructure development in the oil-producing region.
He stated that the NDDC would continue to commission its completed projects to erase the impression that it was not living up to expectations as an interventionist agency.
In Okrika Local Government Area, where the George-Ama internal roads were inaugurated, the Managing Director said “It is a thing of joy for me because I know the value of this project to this community. The benefits are enormous for the fishermen who can now very easily access the markets with their daily takes”.
Dr. Oboh who said the commission would continue to intervene in the areas of critical need for the people of the region urged communities to protect projects in their domain and sued for continued peace as that was the only way to attract more amenities from the NDDC.
A community leader, Mr. James Kalipa thanked the NDDC for the road project, describing it as a sign of good things to come.
“We say a big thank you to the NDDC for touching the lives of our people. We expect more projects in the future”. He declared.
