The people of Egi Community in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA of Rivers State, have commended the Federal Government and those Oil companies that have come to the aid of the victims of the flood disaster that affected the Council, recently.
Chief Oris U. Onyiri President General of Egi People’s Assembly, made this commendation at the 55th Annual General Meeting of Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA), in Port Harcourt.
Chief Oris described flooding as a natural disaster, expressing its experience as sad. He thanked the management of Total Petroleum for its quick response in providing relief materials to the affected victims, with the presence of its Managing Director, despite the fact that its facility was badly affected by the flood.
He commended other Oil Companies and politicians in ONELGA for their contributions to alleviate the suffering of the flood victims.
Oris further explained that the flood disaster committee was set-up to work with all the Community Development Committees (CDC) in all the communities, in order to ascertain the real number of persons that were affected by the flood.
On the exact number of those affected by the flood, to whom compensation will be given, paid proper rehabilitation of the victims, Chief Onyiri said he was not in position to give such information.
Onyiri, who is one of the newly sworn-in council members of PHCCIMA, used the occasion, to call on government at all levels, organizations, and private individuals to do more to assist in the rehabilitation of those that were affected by the flood in Egi Community, especially those whose buildings were completely brought down by the flood. ###
