Adenuga Supports Bayelsa Flood Victims With N500m Donation

Chairman and principal owner of Globacom, Nigeria’s leading telecommunications company, Dr. Mike Adenuga Jnr. has donated the sum of N500m to the Bayelsa State Government to support its flood relief efforts.
Presenting a draft cheque to the State Governor Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson in Abuja on Tuesday, the telecommunications mogul said he was moved to make the donation because he felt touched by the plight of the flood victims considering the magnitude of the flood and its devastating effect on both the state and its citizens.
He commended the various steps taken by both the federal and state governments to ameliorate the effects of the flood on the people during and after the rains, adding that his contribution is intended to provide additional succor to the people of the state.
Receiving the cheque from Dr. Adenuga, Governor Seriake Dickson, who led a powerful delegation of the eminent people from the state to the residence of the business mogul, was full of praises and appreciation for the financial contribution from the Globacom boss. He also commended him for expressing such deep concern and love for the people of Bayelsa State, assuring him that that the money will be judiciously used along with other donations received from public spirited individuals, corporate bodies, donor agencies both locally and internationally to serve the interest of those who were displaced by the deluge.
The state governor further disclosed that he has set up a high-powered committee composed of high calibre and very credible persons to handle Post Flood Management affairs. The committee is headed by former National Security Adviser, General Andrew Owoye Azazi.
The governor hinted that the choice and calibre of persons on the committee underscores the resolve and commitment of the state government to ensure that monies donated towards this cause are well spent and directed to the real beneficiaries as well as made to serve the purpose for which they were intended.
