Eko 2012: Rivers Draws The First Blood, Wins First Gold Medal

To actualize the target set at the 18th National Sports Festival Team Rivers has won its first gold medal through Edward Osim in the cycling event on Tuesday 27th November, 2012.
Making a statement during the commencement of the competition, Rivers State Public Relations Officer of the State Sports Council Barisi. Wifa disclosed that Rivers State intention of keeping all the athletes that won gold medals for Team Rivers at the 17th National Sports Festival at the “Garden City Games” in Port Harcourt, is to maintain the status quo, stressing that Team Rivers is sure of the target she has set, courtesy of the training and preparation given to the team. He added that the Team Rivers preparation started from the point when the athletes were kept intact so as to defend the gold medal first position won for Rivers State.
In order to keep the Athletes happy by a way of motivation, their salaries have been paid upfront to December, noting that, the athletes have no single reason not to perform at “Eko 2012”.
He reaffirmed that Team Rivers is participating to not only to win, but also to set at another record against the one set the Garden City Games” in Port Harcourt. ###
