The ever busy East West Road, of recent, has been characterized by notoriety as crime and accident have become the order of the day. Touting activities also have taken over the commercial busy road.
Our correspondent gathered that ticket touts, from left and right, now eat fat with the trades as they intimidate them at will in making their ends meet.
Further investigation on the busy road also revealed that the road has become accident prone due to the narrow space coupled with the non availability of street light which has become the greatest undoing to drivers who ply the road.
Most worrisome is the way the touts have pitched their tents against the traders doing their business on the roadside. Multiple ticketing has also increased while thieves are having a field day against the traders.
Intimidation of all kind is so rampant there that the traders are now calling on the government to please come to their aid.
According to the traders, they are not happy witnessing car accidents at will on the road. They urged the government to make its intervention a priority as lives are being claimed on weekly basis.
The Rivers State government should think of any possible means to curb the menace and accident activities on that road before the yuletide takes its shape proper, as not doing anything to put that road in perfect control will only spell doom during the yuletide celebration. ###
