St. Francis Catholic Church Rumuokwuta, Port Harcourt, Rivers State has been described as one of the fastest-growing parishes in the Catholic Diocese of Port Harcourt. This has been the views of Catholics and non-Catholics that have visited the Parish for one reason or the other.
The parish in its order of activities for the year, ably led by the parish priest, Rev. Monsignor (Dr) Emmanuel Maru, had on Sunday, 11th of November, 2012 held her 2012 Adult Annual Harvest Thanksgiving, with the theme; Harvest of Divine Favour, at the church premises.
As a way of appreciating parishioners who may have in one way or the other contributed to service of God and humanity. The parish had rewarded some parishioners in this years Harvest of Divine Favour as Royal men, 2012 and Couples of the Year 2012.
Making his remarks at the award presentation, Mr. Jude Eguzoro, a member of the Parish Pastoral Council and the Zonal Leader, Rumuigbo-Rumuomoi Zone of St. Francis Catholic Church, Rumuokwuta, described the living condition of couples as “Sweet and Peppery”, urging married couples to always be patient and tolerate one another. Eguzoro commended the parish priest, Rev. Monsignor Maru and the entire parishioners for such an honour bestowed on him.
In the same vein, Mr. Jerry Udegbunam, vice chairman of the parish pastoral council, a member of Rumuigbo-Rumuomoi Zone and Engr. Chuks Anaele, Managing Director of Basic Engineering Steel Technology Ltd, recipients of the Royal Men Award expressed gratitude to the Parish Priests and worshippers at St. Francis, Rumuokwuta, for finding them worthy of the award. Chuks, who expressed joy to be firstly honoured with a title in the house of God, prayed the Almighty God, to use his recent gift of twins baby to them, (his family) as a point of contact to bless all those that trooped to the alter to support him during the harvest.
However, Mr. Emmanuel Chukwu, Managing Director of C. Emmax International Limited; used the medium to laud St. Francis Catholic Church for been truly a loving and caring family, and enjoined those that are expecting to be honoured, to always do their best and be rest assured that they will be honoured one day, both Emmanuel and his wife promised to light up a section of the new building that is under-going construction at the church premises and advised all couples to live together, just as they have lived for the past seventeen (17) years.###
