The Agitator and Establisher of the Oil derivation revenue for the Niger Delta States, Rev. Sokari Soberekon has charged the federal government to create a state each for both Bayelsa and Rivers state in the areas that is causing the problem between the two States.
According to the elder statesman, the federal government could create from the areas in which both Bayelsa and Rivers State are having dispute and make it a state each for both states. This he said will successfully put to rest the incessant problems encountered by the two sister states.
Rev. Soberekon explained that the two states should not be on each other’s throat because they have enough problems to solve for themselves due to the geographical position they find themselves. This he said the federal government could help them to achieve, pointing out that after all creation of state is for development.
The clergyman who was at Bayelsa state to see things for himself, concerning the flood that sacked residents of Yenagoa and its environs, decried the plight of what he saw, hence he was touched to make this recommendation and suggestion to the federal government.
He pointed out that as an activist he could not stay in his house enjoying freedom bestowed on him by God while his people are suffering, saying that he has no place on earth, the whole of Niger Delta is his own constituency and if some ugly things happen to any part of Niger Delta, he could not be comfortable, adding that it was the same feeling of that prompted him to fight for the agitation of the oil derivation revenue formular for his people in the Niger Delta.
He urged the people of both states not to quarrel over the situation at hand, rather they should turn to God in prayer for the federal government to create state each for Bayelsa and Rivers State in the areas that are bringing about the dispute.###
