Abia State Government has commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), for responding promptly to the plight of flood victims in the state.
Special Assistant to the Governor on NDDC, Fidelis Nwachukwu made the commendation while receiving relief materials procured by the Commission at Oke-Ikpe in Ukwa East Local Government Area of the state.
“We are proud of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for intervening at a time like this. Please keep it up” he said.
NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Christian Oboh, represented by Abia State Representative on the Board, Aloysius Nwagboso explained that the donation was in line with Federal Government directive urging agencies to provide succor for floor victims.
“We are touched by the plight of the victims, this little token is a way of demonstrating how we feel” he said and charged them to ensure that the items were properly distributed and utilized.
Commenting on the gesture, The Eze Oha 1 of Obuzor Ukwa, Eze Maxwell Akanwa thanked the commission for its efforts and assured that the relief materials will get to the affected areas.
Items donated include bags of rice, tin tomatoes, salt and buckets.
In a related development, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has donated relief materials to flood victims in Oguta and Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Areas of Imo State.
Relief materials donated include bags of rice, garri, beans, salt, tomato paste, cooking oil, tubers of yam, disinfectants, soap, detergent and mosquito nets.
Presenting the items to the affected communities at the Civic Centre Oguta and Ohaji, headquarters of Ohaji/Egbema LGA respectively, Managing Director of the NDDC, Dr. Christian Oboh, represented by the Director, Imo State Office, Osato Arenyeka, sympathized with the victims and assured them that the commission would do all that was necessary to help alleviate their plight.
Dr. Oboh appealed to the community leaders to ensure that the relief materials meant for the flood victims were shared proportionately among the affected communities.
Traditional ruler of Oguta, Eze Chinedu Nzeribe, thanked the NDDC for coming to the aid of his people and urged other agencies of government to emulate the Commission.
On his part, the Director of Administration, Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area, Alloy Obinna, expressed appreciation to the NDDC for intervening to cushion the effects of the flood.
