The Rivers State government through the office of the Accountant-General has concluded arrangement to train senior accountants in the state.
Declaring the training open on Monday, the Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Chamberlain Peterside said he is excited at the leadership style of Governor Chibuike Amaechi who he said has passion for the training of civil servants.
He lauded the cooperation and zeal exhibited by the civil servants in previous trainings which he said made the achievement recorded so far possible.
Dr. Peterside described the Treasury Department as centre of the entire government activities. He urged the accountants to make optimum use of the training to better their lot, adding that a lot is happening in the accounting world which they must key into.
In his remarks the newly appointed Head of Service (HOS) in the state, Barr. Samuel LongJohn who said the training was apt, urged the participants to strive to benefit from the exercise.
Earlier in his speech, the Accountant General, Sir Ngozi Abu said the world is becoming dynamic and without training and retraining, we may not catch up with the trend.
He thanked God for Gov. Amaechi who has supported training since the inception of his administration.
Sir, Abu said the current training is to bridge the gap between our accountants and the rest of the world.
The training focused on public sector accounting for effective payroll salary and wages administration. ###
