Youths of Rivers State have congratulated the Agitator and Establisher of the case of oil revenue derivation in Nigeria in 1981, Rev. (Dr.) Sokari Ben Obu Soberekon for clocking 70 and bagging a doctorate degree.
They have also used the opportunity to call on Governor Rotimi Amaechi and the entire Niger Delta governors to honour him.
Rev. (Dr.) Soberekon clocked 70 on September 29, 2012, and was awarded a doctorate Degree (Ph.D), Humanities, by the authorities of Tennessee Christian University, United States of America.
The spokesman of the youths, Mr. Obinna Silver said the news of Rev. (Dr.) Sokari Ben Obu Soberekon being awarded doctorate degree of Humanities (Ph.D) by Tennessee Christian University, United States of America (USA) did not come to them as a surprise, considering the numerous social services rendered by the awardee to the public, especially in his early active days in life, when he conveyed pregnant women and children free of charge in his transport service scheme in the state in the 1980s, describing the award as well deserved.
The youths commended his efforts, particularly in the case of oil revenue derivation, stating that they are confident that the award would spur him into providing more social services to the people of the State, Niger Delta region and the public in general.
The youths commended the authorities of Tennessee Christian University, USA for considering Rev. (Dr.) Sokari Ben Obu Soberekon for the award, thus appreciating purposeful services to humanity. They also wished him more fruitful years ahead to enable him enjoy his labours in peace.
Rev. (Dr.) Sokari Soberekon in 1981 went on hunger strike to agitate for the establishment of oil derivation policy in the country until the federal government approved it during President Shehu Shagari’s administration. ###
