The Rivers State governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has called on the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria to partner with the state government on the land management reform, COFO reform.
Governor Amaechi made the remark during the 1st Annual Banking dinner with the theme cashless banking in Nigeria: – Prospects problems and opportunities organized by the chartered Institute of bankers of Nigeria Port Harcourt Branch at the Banquet Hall Presidential Hotel in Port Harcourt.
According to him, I want to use this opportunity to urge you to assist us improve our land governance system, if you partner with us and support us in this direction, we will succeed.
The chief executive officer of the state further requested that the land record should be digitalized.
Governor Amaechi who was represented by Hon. Ezemonye Ezekiel Amadi, the Rivers State Commissioner for Land and Survey expressed worriness that most things does not work in Nigeria, just like the ATM that has failed Nigerians demanded that the cashless banking system should work effectively to improve business and create job opportunities for unemployed youths.
In his speech the Rivers State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Chamberline Oyibo while thanking the chartered Institute of bankers of Nigeria for organizing the ceremony noted that no one can improve on business without bankers hence the Rivers State government identify with the banks in any business they venture into assuring that the ministry was ready to partner with them make transformation, accountability and transparency in the present administration and appeal for more investors in Rivers State.
Earlier in his opening remark Mr. Segun Aina, OFR FCIB president/chairman of council CIBN noted that the event was to reflect on the banking institution in Nigeria describing the choice of the theme cashless banking in Nigeria as timely.
According to him, this has been a serious issue in the country, no one is in doubt that the policy has come to stay.
Mr. Aina further expressed hope that the cashless banking system will be encouraged stressing that all the legal framework and infrastructure must be put in place to make it work effectively.
Delivering a lecture on the cashless banking system professor Chinedu B. Ezirim PHD, a lecturer in the University of Port Harcourt stressed the need for cashless banking in Ngeria.
According to him, cashless banking serves as selfless help provided by bank, it was established to enable bank assess their accounts on internet. Stressing that the system is not only for developed countries but also for the underdeveloped countries adding the system will render services to economic service banks that has not benefited in the system. ####
