The Rivers State Government, through its Ministry of Information and Communications, has rewarded 4 indigenes of the state, out of the 13 entries that were received at the just concluded Rivers Information Film Competition tagged: RIVINFO 2012 The Award Nite which took place on the 13th of October, 2012 at Silver Bird Cinema, Abonnema Wharf Road, Port Harcourt, had the Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaech, the Governor of Rivers State; his wife, Dame Judith Amaech4 Captain Elechi Amadi (rtd), chairman of the occasion and Hon. Onari Brown, chairman, House Committee on Information and Training in attendance.
Others include: Mrs. Ibim Semenitari Honourable Commissioner of Information and Communications, Rivers State; Mrs. Jokotade Adamu, Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of information and communications, amongst others.
Presenting her address, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari commended the strides of Governor Amaech, pointing out that his administration is one that brought ION Film Festival and other national and international festivals to Rivers State. Ibim added that Rivers films were the only films that were screened at ZUMA Film Festival, Abuja 2012, pointing that the rewards of the four persons, that have distinguished themselves in the RIVINFO Film Competition, was part of their ministry’s ways of empowering the youths and people of Rivers State and urged them to move on and make the state proud in the movie industry.
In his remarks, Captain Elechi Amadi applauded the State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, for his financial support to the success of the RIVINFO Film Competition and the organizers of the project on the success of the Award Nite. In the same vein, Gov. Amaechi commended Mrs. Semenitari, the Panel of Judges and those that helped in the film competition without asking for money from the state government, promising that those persons will be appreciated by the state government, subsequently and called for the sustainability of the project.
Acknowledging Nigeria with plenty of untapped potentials, Dame Judith Amaechi, pointed out that movie makers can make Nigeria proud, through their works. She said looks looking forward to seeing a Rivers Man, becoming the best movie producer in Nigeria and beyond. She further urged the people to work together with the state government, to make the state what it ought to be, using the medium to advise those in the business of oil bunkering to desist from such that, hence the need for the prize winners to use their money to make movies that will promote Nigeria and Rivers State in particular.
In her remarks, Mrs. Jokotade Adamu, Perm. Sec. Ministry of Information commended the state governor, Amaechi and his wife Judith, for their commitments to better the lots of the people through various empowerment programs. She also applauded Mrs. Ibim for all her efforts in the ministry and enjoined the guests at the Award Nite to help in empowering people around them.
The prize winners are: Mr. Sweetman A. Okujagu, Star Prize winner and 1 position, Documentary with a cash sum of N3m, Ejim Fortune Kezi, first position, Docu-Drama, Mr. Bright Orgwu, 2′ position, Docu-Drama and Ibifaa Ombo, 2 prize, Documentary. The Panel of Judges are: Mr. Adiela Onyedibia, Henry Leopold Bell-Gam, Achibi Samuel Dede and Princes Maureen Ihua.
