Last weekend, Saturday 15th October, 2012 at the government lodge Bonny, the Headquarters of the Bonny local government area of Rivers State, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, inaugurated some faithful politicians as the local government area elders, known as Caucus.
The 41 faithful politicians were drawn from the twelve wards of the local government area and others who merited automatic tickets.
The man chosen to head the PDP elders forum (caucus), Bonny, is a one-time secretary, Elders Forum, Bonny, Hon. Aboma Pepple, with Barr. Promise Green as scribe.
In a chat with this publication in his residence at Bonny the incumbent caucus chairman, PDP, Bonny, Hon. Aboma Pepple said that Bonny Peoples Democratic Party has been reformed. “We will put the party in a right track and position.”
He urged all to respect the party’s constitution irrespective of status, saying that indiscipline will not be condoned from anyone who will not follow the rules and regulations of the party.
Hon. Aboma assured that his administration will put in transparency into the party, so as to bring more dividends of Democracy to the door step of every member.
The caucus chairman appealed to all members of the party in the local government area to live up to expectation in the interest of the party. He noted that difference in the party will continue to reduce population of members and create more conflict among them.
According to him, “I think we should have what we call party discipline which party members will acknowledge by obeying the laws and respect the party’s constitution.
He stressed the need for the present caucus to return discipline to the party. He charged those at local government and ward excos to ensure that the party is consolidated at all times. Ensuring that the party’s structure must be at a high level hence Peoples Democratic Party is the biggest Party in the area both state and national.
The chairman noted that the cause of the intra party feuds is that there was no formal discipline in the party but now discipline will be put in place as all hands must be on deck.
Pepple assured of good leadership in the local government area.
According to him, “I have been a good politician for a long time, I was once an elected councillor in ward 6 Bonny local government area, a supervisory councillor for education, youth and social development in Bonny local government area. I contested and won while I was in detention in Port Harcourt prison. I am called and known as he Mandela of Bonny by my political associates.
He said that the present position as the caucus chairman conferred on him does not surprise him because he merited it. That the main stream of PDP in Bonny local government area was based on a motion he moved in one of the meetings held years back, then, there was no party like PDP in the area.
Hon. Pepple had led in several committee heads, councillors screening committee, chairman Bonny local government area, member, joint governing council of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Akoka Lagos state.
The chairman promised to welcome back all those who left the party for their best reasons only if they are interested to come back to the party; because the party is large enough to accommodate everybody, he added.
Hon. Aboma used the medium to send a good will message to the Rivers state governor Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi and the Bonny Council boss, Hon. (Barr.) Edward E. Pepple, for their pragmatic development of the state and local government area.
He also lauded the Rivers State Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Grorge F. Tolofari and Hon. Aye A. Pepple, member, Rivers State House of Assembly for their political orientation in Bonny local government area.
He charged others to embrace peace in Bonny politics.
