Though regular criticism in some cases trail some members of the Nigerian police force in cause of discharging their constitutional functions to members of the Society and there is a saying that commend when commendable and condemn when condemnable and it is on this note that the divisional police officer incharge of Bonny police headquarters, S.P. Abuja Dashuwar T. speaking with newsmen in his office at Bonny in the Bonny local government area of Rivers State during a courtesy visit to the station, last weekend commended journalists for their visit to the station, but charged them to be the friends of police and report any incriminating act to the nearest police station for the best interest of the society.
The DPO assured that he will do his best in combating crime in the area, assuring that his office is open to attend to any useful information.
He lauded youths in the area for the peaceful conduct of their life style in Bonny local government area. He noted that he is a friend to all, but he will frown if you may not be law abiding in the society.
He assured that bail is free and that any matter meant to be settled out of the station will be given concession.
The DPO commended men and officers of the police in his Division for effective discharge of their duties. He charged them to live up to expectation in the interest of their functions and the society, stressing that any officer who may be found wanting in the name of his uniform will not be condoned, while disciplinary measures shall be meted out to such officer.
S.P Dashuwar lauded the local government area council boss, Hon. (Barr.) Edward E. Pepple for cooperation given to the police in the area.
He used the medium to commend the Bonny council of Chiefs for assisting police in the area, while assuring effective policing in the area.
In his speech, the team leader Comrade Christopher David Hart of The Newswriter newspaper thanked the DPO for such reception accorded to the journalists in Bonny Hart on behalf of the team assured the DPO that they are ready to work with the police in Bonny cooperatively so as to combat crimes in the area.
He appealed to members of the society to see the police as friends and assist them in reporting incriminating characters to any law enforcement agents, noting that society should partner with the police for the betterment of Nigeria. ####
