Not less than one hundred and twenty (120) defaulters have been arrested in this month’s Environmental Sanitation exercise in Port Harcourt.
The breakdown of the number of defaulters arrested proved that out of 100% of persons arrested, females were 80%.
The newly appointed sole administrator of the Rivers State Environmental Sanitation Authority, Mr. Ade Adeogun made the revelation while in a chat with journalists during this month’s (October) sanitation exercise in Port Harcourt.
Mr. Adeogun who frowned at the rate in which females, ladies walked about during sanitation hours wondered why young ladies who are supposed to be in their various homes to ensure that all their domestic works are well done especially during sanitation hours should be seen loitering and thus made a passionate appeal to their parents especially mothers to warn their daughters to desist from such ungodly act.
The sole administrator who spoke through Dr. Nmegbu Ugochukwu the Head of Operation of the Rivers State Environmental Sanitation Authority and Mr. Olalekan Ige the press officer of the authority and the editor of Independent Monitor Newspaper expressed appreciation that most resident of Port Harcourt complied in the sanitation exercise.
He however, observed that the reasons for not attaining hundred percent 100% compliance in the exercise was that some resident of the garden city were of the opinion that the exercise could not have held since the nation has just celebrated their 52nd anniversary in which Rivers State was involved enjoined residents to always clean their environment as it was stated that “cleanliness is next to godliness”.
According to him, “we should always inculcate the habit of regular cleaning of our environments to avoid being sick and die”, he posited. ###
