The Rivers State governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has in clear terms disclosed that the two Rivers State owned football clubs, Sharks and Dolphins Football clubs campaigning in the Nigeria Premier League will never be disbanded. The State Chief Executive made this disclosure over the weekend in a radio programme.
Sharks and Dolphins football clubs did not end the just concluded Nigeria Premier League on a bright note, this attracted reactions from many fans and football lovers in the state, leading to insinuations of different sorts. No thanks to unpaid match bonuses and match allowances.
Governor Amaechi affirmed that Sharks and Dolphins are bonafide clubs of Rivers State government and there is nothing that will make the state government to disband the clubs even if the duo did not perform up to expectation from the just concluded last season Nigeria premier league. He emphasized that his administration will rather strengthen the two teams to claim their place in the premier league this season.
However, the Nigeria Premier League has been kept on hold due to lack of sponsorship. The Minister of Sports, Bolaji said the league will not kick off untill a sponsor saddled with the responsibility of successfully taking the league to the end unlike previous seasons is found. ###
