Rivers NUT Celebrates World Teachers Day…Appeals to Amaechi

This year’s world teachers Day was celebrated in Port Harcourt by men and women of the teaching profession with an appeal, through the union chairman, Comrade Chief Moses Adiela (JP) at Isaac Boro Park on the 5th of October, 2012.
In his address, Chief Moses Adiela appealed to the state executive to help the teachers to have their own building to be called “Teachers’ House” The amiable soft spoken chairman of Teachers enumerated some of the teething problems bedeviling the smooth workability of the teachers in the state.
Notable amongst them are, funding, example, administrative imprest, conduct of examination, non implementation of financial implication of promotion, conduct of promotion interview. The chairman also commended the government on her timely support given to the teachers union in the state.
In his response, the governor said for the good attitude of the NUT chairman approve and with understanding he has to do some of those things he has done for the teachers in the state. Like teachers salary structure (TSS), regular payment of salaries, building and completion of world class modern primary and secondary schools, capacity building and recruitment of 13, 000 teachers.
Governor Amaechi assured Rivers teachers that he will provide conducive environment for them to do their work but they should be ready to be ITC compliant pointing out that those who could not cope with the directives should look for another job. The governor hinted that the teachers will all be trained so as to fit in to the new policy of the state government policy on education.
Governor Amaechi also assured rural primary school head teachers and secondary school principals incentive allowances as a way of encouraging and motivating the teachers to bring the best out of them to mould the leaders of tomorrow while pleading for the teachers to be patient as he will soon pay them their imprest allowance. ###
