ACN Sympathizes With Flood Victims In Rivers

The Action Congress of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter has expressed its sympathy with those affected by the flood that has ravaged several communities in the State.
The party’s position was contained in a press statement issued and signed by the Publicity Secretary, Jerry Needam.
The ACN regretted that under Governor Rotimi Amaechi, Rivers State has recorded unprecedented history of casualties, tragedies and wide-ranging crimes than any other in the State.
The party called on Governor Amaechi to seek the face of God in the governance of the State.
Rivers people, ACN said are daily going through pains occasioned by bad roads, lack of portable water, infrastructure etc.
ACN also condemned comments credited to the Commissioner for Environment; Mr Nyema Weli that the Amaechi led government is helpless in the flood situation in Rivers State, adding that such comments can only emanate from a failed and visionless administration.
The Commissioner for Environment while answering questions from newsmen, during last Saturday’s sanitation exercise reportedly said the government of Governor Rotimi Amaechi is helpless in keeping away the water from submerging the communities.
The party welcomes flood palliative measures announced by the Federal Government of Nigeria and called on the Rivers State Government to urgently move into flood affected areas in the state and provide alternative accommodations and relief materials to them.
The party condemns the Flood Response Committee Chaired by Rivers Deputy Governor, Tele Ikuru, describing the committee as a “Peoples Democratic Party political gimmick to further siphon tax payers’ money, arguing that the committee on flood management headed by a renowned Professor inaugurated a year ago by Governor Amaechi is professionally and morally sound to manage the current flood challenges in the State”
“We are worried at the level at which Governor Amaechi constitutes committees and abandons them,” ACN disclosed
We pray and sympathize with families of those who lost their loved ones and properties to the flood in Ahoada East, Ogba/Egbema Ndoni and other local government areas in Rivers State.
