The G5 of Assemblies of God Church, Number 5 Emole Street, Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt has inaugurated its pioneer executive that would pilot the affairs of the association for the next two years.
The association has also bestowed humanitarian awards on some ministers in the church for their selfless services to humanity..
The ceremony took place at Number 5 Emole Street Mile 2, Diobu Port Harcourt during the G5 Academic day celebration on 30th September, 2012.
The newly inaugurated pioneer EXCO include Mr. Godstime C. Wokocha President, Mr. Prince Akiyo-Vice President.
Others are Miss Christian Juliet Eguzo-General Secretary, Miss Blessing Dickson-Treasurer while Mr. Uzoka Nnamdi is the Public Relations Officer, (PRO).
Those bestowed the award include Elder James Nnadi, Elder Innocent Uchendu, Elder Okon Harrison for selfless services to the church and humanity, Professor C. K. Wachukwu, a lecturer in the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Nkpolu Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt received an award for advancement in academic pursuit while professor C. Ike Umechuraba bagged an award for pioneering the Assemblies of God Evangel University.
Earlier in his speech, Bro. Victor Anucha, the Research and Orientation chairman of G5 on behalf of the association described the ceremony as an epoch making one, noting that the occasion was geared towards celebration of academicians, intellectuals, leaders of tomorrow, graduates and undergraduates of Assemblies of God Church Number 5 Emole Street, Port Harcourt whom God has preserved their lives after passing through hurdles of the four walls of the tertiary institutions.
According to him, the United G5 came into being last year through the effort of Rev. Dr. Mike Japhet, the Section Leader incharge of Number 5 Emole Assemblies of God Church who saw the need to gather the talents of the graduates of the church adding that the idea was shared among some graduates who met the visionary senior minister Rev. Dr. Mike Japhet to approve their ideas. The objectives of G5 includes evangelism, sensitization of the church through organization of seminars, workshops, symposia, conferences, rendering services in the house of God and contributing positively to the growth of the church adding that the G5 unit is committed to transformation and evangelism.
Bro. Anucha enumerated the achievements of the unit which includes provision of five sizeable fire extinguishers to the church, two metal detectors and a digital camera, award of scholarships to six students, presentation of award prizes to best and second best students in science and arts subjects. Others are, organizing intensive classes for teens which resulted to one of the students gaining admission to the University of Nigeria Nsukka, adding that the G5 unit members decided to serve God with their resources, talents and potentials, hence they were investing on God’s treasures.
He further stated that the G5 unit would not have achieved their feat without members of the church and commended Rev. Dr. Mike Japhet for his spiritual encouragement, the Deacons and Deaconesses of the church and the entire members of the church for their supports.
In his sermon Professor Ikechi Umechuruba who was one of the awardees recalled his challenges and gave God the glory for defeating the challenges that confronted him for being the brain behind the formation of G5 Unit.
He also thanked the G5 members for giving him the award and the entire members of the church for their support.
Professor Umechuruba who cited Philippians 4:9 advised Nigerians to fear God and do what God expects them to do, stressing that they should do things that they will be remembered for recalling how his late father who was one of the pioneer members of Assemblies of God helped members before his demise, which he is now reaping from the harvest. ###
