Security Challenge In The North Nearing End, Says IGP

Current challenge of insecurity in some parts of the North would soon become history, as the Police would continue pursuing sustainable peace and stability in the affected states, Inspector General (IG)of Police Mohammed Dahiru Abubakar said on Tuesday.
He gave the assurance when he paid a courtesy call on Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, pointing out that normalcy is gradually returning to Kano.
IGP Abubakar, who was in Kano as part of his assessment tour of security situation in some parts of the country, expressed happiness that commercial activities in the state are beginning to gather momentum.
“From the look of things, peace and stability is gradually returning to Kano State; security situation is improving and it is appreciating to normalcy,” he observed. “We are now putting additional measures to ensure that Kano State remains calm and secure; and thank God, commercial activities are picking up in state.”
According to him, most of the police stations at the grassroots level lack operational vehicles and equipment, and this is hindering their operations.
He called for improved government in providing the Police with the required equipment in order to boost staff morale and promote efficiency in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities, saying “It is when the equipment are available that we can make predictions And we strongly believe that when they are in place, we will be adequately equipped to face ongoing and unforeseen security challenges in the country.”
Abubakar then thanked Kwankwaso for renovating some Police structures in the state. Responding, the governor promised that his administration would continue to collaborate with the Police to ensure the return of peace to the state.
