The newly elected president of Rotary club of Port Harcourt East, RTN Agumagu Daniel, has reaffirmed his joint commitment with members to pursue vigorously the set course of Rotary International.
Speaking during his induction and the induction of the Board of Directors as well as the launching of service projects at Rumuepirikom Civic Centre last weekend, the newly elected president noted that the objective of the Rotary International summarizes the interest of the Rotarians as he expressed gratitude that the past leadership of the club held forthrightly to the ideals of Rotary, stressing that the baton has formally changed hands on his induction as the president and thus solicited the understanding, goodwill and unflinching co-operation of the past leadership and other members of the club to move the organization forward.
According to him, “as a Rotarian, our desire is to impact positively on the lives of people especially the less-privileged in our neighbourhood and the wider society. It is for this reason that we requested the understanding and goodwill of other members of our society.
RTN Agumagu who pointed out that the society has become tumultuous, hateful, full of bitterness and rancor, said his main focus should be to commit their time and resources towards the achievement of peace, stressing that the club would hold public peace cum conflict resolution seminars and symposium.
The club shall also embark on projects which have relevance to Rotary’s area of emphasis and this includes water, sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy.
According to him, over the years, the club has embarked on project development and programmes at Ebulu and in Mgbu Akara communities Obio/Akpor LGA, emphasizing that other communities like Mgbuosimini, Rumueme (Agip) and Mgbouodohia, Rumuolumini are in dire need of sanitary facilities, adding that the club community service programme will address such and appealed for public assistance.
He commended all who supported the club both morally and in kind.
In a chat with journalists, the past president of the club, RTN (Chief) Nchelem Elenwo who congratulated the new elected president, described Rotaract Agumagu as a humble, dependable ally, expressing no doubt that he would perform well.
He enumerated his achievements as the Rotary president to include helping the less-privileged with micro-finance loans, assisting in the eradication of polio, among others and appealed to government to assist the club in their desire to eradicate polio in the federation.
