Disturbed by protracted security challenges in the region, the Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) will on Wednesday inaugurate a 40-man committee to work on reconciling the people and healing the pains of years of bloodshed.
Speaking on Tuesday, chairman of the Forum and governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu said the northern governors were determined to end the cycle of violence that has resulted in the death of several lives in the region.
“The Forum has left no one in doubt about its concern for the general welfare of its people and would, therefore, do all that is humanly possible to engender the most desired peaceful co-existence, unity and development in the entire region,” read a portion of a statement signed by Aliyu’s chief press secretary, Danladi Ndayebo,
It added the committee comprises very eminent personalities from diverse backgrounds, with the mandate to fashion out strategies to address the disturbing state of insecurity, and suggest practical and enduring solutions to the Forum.
Those to be inaugurated include Ambassador Zakari Ibrahim, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, Professor Tijjani el-Miskin, AIG Hamisu Ali Jos (RTD), HRH Ibrahim Sulu Gambari and Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah.
Others are AVM Mukhtar Mohammed, Gen. Martin Luther Agwai, HRH Nde Joshua Y. Dimlong, Sheikh Ahmad Lemu, and Mrs. Aisha Oyebode.
