The WHO is Who in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Gokana local government area have launched a heavy campaign against the dreaded killer of mankind, HIV/AIDS, as records revealed that the LGA is second to none in HIV/AIDS infection.
The campaign was led by Senator Magnus Abe, Senator representing South-East senatorial District, the Gokana council chairman Demua Ledee Demua, the House of Assembly member representing Gokana LGA, Hon. Dr. Innocent Barikor, his counterpart from Khana constituency 1, Hon. Legborsi Nwudaadah.
Others are the chairman, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Gokana, Mrs. Second Bakor.
Addressing market women at the Kibagah market in Bera Gokana, Senator Magnus Abbey condemned the rate of HIV/Aids in Gokana saying the people have the highest record of people infected with the disease in Rivers State and the governor of Rivers State Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi has directed that campaign should be mounted to reduce the anomaly.
The leader of Ogoni politics stated that it is in the interest of the people that the PDP Gokana organized the campaign to speak openly against the menace.
Speaking shortly after the campaign, Senator Abe told journalists that the protection of people from the infection of HIV/AIDs is very paramount because the rate of death among the youths have reached an alarming level.
He told pregnant women to visit the Health Centres to check their HIV status to avoid transmission to the child.
Earlier, the council chairman, Hon. Ledee Demua Ledee, thanked the Senator and all those who came out in large number to campaign against HIV/AIDS in Gokana.
The chairman stated that it was a shame that Gokana people broke the record in the issue of HIV/AIDs showing that they do not protect themselves during sex.
Hon. Second Bakor told the ward leaders to vigorously continue the campaign in their wards to reduce the record dramatically. ####
