Mary God International School Elelenwo recently held her 10th graduation ceremony and book presentation in grand style. The Proprietress of the school Mrs. Janeth Obi Weli advised the graduands to ensure that the training given to them from Cornerstone should lead them through out their academic pursuit. Adding that Mary Gold has been striving over the years to improve the standard of education in Rivers State culminating in their successes in external examinations.
Mrs. Weli further commended the 23 young authors who single handedly wrote great books that addressed the situation in the country.
She advised the authors not to relent on their effort and called on other schools to emulate the examples of Mary Gold in order to improve the reading culture in Nigeria.
Also speaking, Mr. Paulinus A. O. Bassey, the chairman of the occasion opined that Mary Gold is holistically moulding the character of the child in the fear of God coupled with social and intellectual development.
He further praised the ardent intellectual capacity of the young authors, counseling them to continue writing until they become renowned authors in future.
In the same vein, the Director of Studies asserted that every child has the potential to excel, all they need is the right environment. He also advised Rivers State Ministry of Education to create more opportunities for reading and define the standard so that students would avail themselves of books.
Engr. Obi Weli called on Rivers State Government to constantly supervise schools in the state in order to meet up certain basic standards.
Disclosing further, Obi Weli stated that in Mary Gold the management mandatorily pay attention to what the teachers teach through strict supervision.
Apart from academic works, Mary Gold also has well established extra curricular activities such as press club, library club, debating club, jet club, drama club, etc which aid in the pursuit of the child’s future developmental process.
