Identify With People And Be Truthful, Apostle Ogu Charges Journalists …As Rivers NUJ Gives Thanks To God

The General Overseer of Abundant Life Evangelical Mission, ALEM, Apostle Eugene Ogu, has called on journalists in the state to anchor their information on the platform of truth and identify with rightful persons in the society.
Addressing a cross section of journalists during a thanksgiving ceremony organized by the Rivers State Council of the NUJ at ALEM, Psychiatric Hospital road, Rumuigbo, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State, Apostle Ogu who thanked journalists in the state for giving thanks to God for what he has done for the Union and for identifying with his church for the ceremony, said the press must identify with the people of the society who can fight for justice and crusade for the masses, because the people of the society need them most.
The former PFN president in the state said Nigerians encounter problems of Boko Haram as a result of the sins committed by the federal government when it sent troops to destroy houses and kill innocent people at Odi, Bayelsa State, as well as shedding blood in some other parts of Nigeria.
He noted that some Nigerians who ought to crusade against injustices have joined politics and enriched themselves with money meant for the masses, thereby forgetting the people they are fighting for, stressing that such has worsened the situation.
Apostle Ogu said he has passion for people and has empowered a lot, adding that politicians should emulate people like him.
Apostle Ogu recalled his poor background and said he dropped out of school in primary four and was an applicant at Wederal road, Imo State, when God called him and wiped his tears.
In his speech Mr. Opaka Dokubo, the chairman of NUJ, said they were in the service to thank God for the successful congress of the union held in April this year and the swearing in of the new executives.
Mr. Opaka thanked Apostle Eugene Ogu and the members of his church for their hospitality and called on the public to cooperate with the journalists in the state for effective discharge of their duties.
Those present at the ceremony include, Opaka Dokubo, the newly elected executive officers and a cross section of journalists. ###
