The Rivers State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN has expressed its dissatisfaction and disappointment over the recent visit to Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi by a factional group who called themselves Governorship candidates in 2011 general elections in the state, describing them as visionless group of executive beggars.
The ACN in a press statement issued and signed by its publicity secretary, Jerry Needam said there could not have been any other reason for what it called unholy alliance with the ruling PDP than glutton and hunger, stressing that it’s better to be honourable in poverty than going back to one’s vomit to satisfy one’s hunger.
Jerry Needam queried what it is that the group has seen Gov Amaechi do that is not visible to other Rivers people in the face of unprecedented youth unemployment in the state, parlous state of the so called newly constructed roads and rising wave of insecurity etc.
“We regret that these self acclaimed governorship candidates with no visible party offices or followership across the 23 council areas of the state think the best way to warm themselves back into Gov. Amaechi-led government is to constitute themselves into a praise singing lot and dressing the failed governor in borrowed robe.
We are however happy Gov. Amaechi may have learnt his lessons from such political Jerrymander in the past and must have seen the undeserved encomiums as sheer hypocrisy and falsehood”, the ACN spokesman noted.
Jerry Needam advised the misguided governorship candidates to go and find a better thing to do for a living than insulting the collective intelligence of the Rivers people and further challenged them to pay a similar visit to some of the flash points within the Port Harcourt metropolis such as Harbour/Reclamation Roads, Alfred Diete Spiff (former industry) road, Ada George, Woji, Emenike, Eagle Cement, Elelenwo, Udi Roads etc. and tell Rivers people the parameters they used to adjudge Gov. Amaechi a performer.
The ACN said the unnecessary encomiums by these obscure politicians in the name of governorship candidates (2011) without frontline politicians in the state shows that all they need from Amaechi is nothing but contracts, employment and political appointments but regrets that they are doing so to corner the money that should have been used to equip the empty health centres, and hire and pay qualified teachers for the unequipped model schools they are counting as landmarks for their benefactor.
The ACN further advised Gov. Amaechi to disregard the deceptive vote of confidence by the crafty and hunger stricken few individuals and face the myriad of problems and challenges staring his administration in the face which he has failed to address, warning that genuine Rivers people and Nigerians are watching.
