The Salvation Army Celebrates Fathers’ Day… As Clergy Admonishes Parents

The Fathers’ Day celebration by the men’s fellowship of the Salvation Army Diobu Corps, Port Harcourt in Rivers/Bayelsa Division, was a memorable one.
The event which took place in the army corps hall at #9 Agudoma (Okereke) Street, Mile II Diobu, Port Harcourt on Sunday 17 June, 2012 featured group songs, solos by Elder Anthony Oju-Kienmie and Ezejesi John, presentation of gifts to fathers and husbands by children, mothers, wives, friends and well wishers, fund raising and also choruses and testimonies led by Sergeant Chijioke. During the choruses and testimonies, Bro. Adawari Dokubo expressed thanks to God for guiding and protecting him since he joined the men’s fellowship as a single man up till now that he is married. He enjoined the young men to follow God’s leading for a better future.
Earlier, the clergy man, Major Kennedy Inyang in his message captioned ‘Don’t Drop the Baton, enjoined father and parents at all levels to lay a lasting legacy for their children (both biological and non biological) to follow. He stressed that the examples of David, Deborah, Esther and other patriarchs should be followed, as these leaders fourth selflessly for their families and nation.
According to him, “these men and women did not drop the baton, but passed it from one generation to another”.
The climax of the event saw to the competition entitled: knowing me knowing you, reveal testing to the understanding among couples. Out of five contestants three emerged winners, among who were Mr. and Mrs. John Ezejesi, Sgt. & Mrs. Chijioke and Mr. & Mrs. Joshua Igwe as first, second and third positions respectively and family thanksgiving by Mr. & Christian Nwosu for God’s protection and grace upon their lives. ###
