Development (IIERSD) Nigeria has held its 7th International Research Conference to hear Oral Presentations, on the 18th of June, 2012, at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education; (St. John’s Campus), Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Speaking with our correspondent at the conference which had the presence of lecturers and researchers from various universities and colleges of education within the Country, Orime Okechukwu C. N., the Coordinating Editor of International Institute of Empirical Research and Sustainable Development (IIERSD) Nigeria, identified many factors as the bane of the economic development of Nigeria.
Orime, who affirmed the power in writing, called on meaningful scholars in Nigeria to put their ideas on paper. He admitted that the educational curriculum was designed by government, but frowned at the attitude of Nigerian government in handling the welfare of the curriculum implementers, the teachers and lecturers.
The IIERSD Editor, noted that researchers are seen as the live wire of every economy in other parts of the world, while the out-come of research works in Nigeria, by researchers are been politicized and not funded.
Orime, recalled that they were told by researchers in Kwame Nkrumah University, Ghana that every research that is been carried out will be sent to their ministry of Education, while the reverse is the case in Nigeria.
He used the medium to call on Nigerian Government to fund researchers, sponsor teachers and intellectuals and to sit tight in the corridors of education; less it remains in the state of moribund, adding that the review of certain policies by government was another way forward.
However, Dr. Onyemaechi Joseph Onwe of National Open University of Nigeria, (NOUN) Lagos State, commended the presentations that were made at the conference and noted that they were food for thought.
Dr. Onwe called on Nigerian Government to support researches that are being carried out by Nigerian researchers to enable the country grow and urged the upcoming graduands and the academia to continue in their researches and never relent.
