The Ijaw Youths Congress (IYC) chairman of Kiribese clan, Comr. John Paul-Workia said, the multi-national oil companies operating in the area should be urged to undertake youth employment and empowerment as well as scholarship programmes to change the history of the teaming youths in the area without compromise and settlement.
The Kirikebese clan IYC chairman made this declaration when addressing journalists in Port Harcourt last week on what he termed, Let our Youths Have Employment First.
In his statement, John Paul Worika stressed that his leadership which came on board in May 2012 thorugh the mandate of the Ijaw youth’s election, would not relent at all times to address issues of Host Community youths rights and privileges to improve the living standard of the teeming youths and appealed to all traditional rulers and political heads not to monetize employment chances for the youths.
In the same the Bese IYC chairman said in order to achieve his mission on youth’s unemployment and empowerment by multi-national companies, letters of notification has been sent to all security chiefs including the JTF commanders and the police for security networking on his divine mission to ensure full compliance by the oil companies operating in his domain.
Hear him, “The oil companies and very many security chiefs have severally miss-tagged our youths as militants when they have been asking for their hosting community rights and in some cases, they were employed as causal workers. They replace their employment rights with friends and relations of these companies’ bosses, so this time my leadership will never condone such unconstitutional and unfavourable treatment on our youths. We will also use radical approach where the need arises.”
John Paul Workia added that his elected IYC executive from Tuesday 5th of June 2012 shall kick start her industrial visit to all companies operating in the area for strict compliance of their MOU between oil companies and the clan. He said the employment injustices that have been meted on the youths of host communities shall be reversed for a new development.
The chairman has also mandated marine investors to go out of the right of seaway to enable marine traffic flow free, especially the Abuloma waterfront axis which has been abused by tugboats and barges at the detriment of the indigenes. He said modalities have been put in place to address and stop these irregularities.
The chairman also used this medium to address all youths of host communities in Kirike Bese to rest assured of their chances and inform the clan where they observe unfair treatment on employment chances within the area.
He appealed to the youths of the Bese to remain law abiding at all times and apply social approaches on issues affecting their well-being and also appealed to the two sister LGA chairmen to compliment the efforts of the clan on this war against oil companies unemployment of our teeming youths. He pledged total engagement of the media to catapult the visions and the achievement of the clan as far as youth’s employment and unemployment is concerned. ###
