Re-Elected NUJ President Pledges To Promote Members’ Welfare

The newly re-elected Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) President Mohammed Garba, has reiterated his assurance to focus on the improvement of members’ welfare and professionalism.
Mallam Garba gave the assurance shortly after the swearing-in of the new elected NUJ executive at the Merit Award Centre, Abuja, last weekend.
According to him, the issue of training members of the union will be given priority attention by the new administration so as to enable journalists improve on the quality of their reporting, stressing that his administration would ensure that the members demonstrate the highest level of professionalism in their day to day journalism practice.
Mallam Garba maintained that the union would conclude negotiations with media proprietors on the assurance policies for journalists working in their establishment as it would go a long way to enhance their practice.
According to him, “my administration would also pursue the implementation of good welfare packages for journalists across the country,” assuring that the journalists working in the private media would be carried along by their prospective proprietors.
The new NUJ president called on those who lost in the race to join with his administration, make their inputs and advise when necessary, to move the union forward and promised to carry everyone along in the scheme of things.
In their separate speeches, other executive members such as Ukeyi S. Uzaka, Fatma Abdukarima, among others, assured that they would discharge their duties faithfully and work in line with the NUJ constitution and do the right things for the union without fear, as well as cooperate with members and carry them along in the scheme of things.
Other elected executive members of the union include, Prince Rotimi Obanuwagun, National Deputy president, Mr. Mustapha Lamidi, Internal Auditor, Mr. Okonkwo Adulphus Financial Secretary, Hajia Fatima Abdukarima, National Treasurer, Mr. Uzaka Ukiyefa Abraham (USA) Vice President Zone F. among others. ###
