Democracy Day: Rivers State Under Amaechi

The Rivers State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN says the achievements of Gov Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi so far do not justify the huge allocations that have accrued to the state for the past five years he has been in charge of affairs in the State.
Rather than stay and monitor his lieutenants and the various agencies created by his administration, ACN said, Amaechi prefers travelling from one country to the other for jamboree.
The ACN came out with this in a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the Party, Jerry Needam on the state of the Nation to mark this year’s Democracy Day.
According to the statement, resources are not the main challenge of the state but the management of those resources and lack of ideas in tandem with the present reality of the economic and social needs etc of the state.
The ACN insists that crisscrossing round the world’s growing economies for jamboree will not solve the problem but only through a conscious effort to build the infrastructure and facilities in addition to a peaceful environment which will attract investors looking for where to invest.
No investor, the ACN argues can invest in a turbulent environment where things are done in staccato form without rules and procedures no thanks to the members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to whom lawlessness and total disregard to due process remains the ideal route to success.
It’s also on account of this, the ACN spokesman, Jerry Needam maintains that there is a dismal performance in the areas of the provision of electricity, portable water, housing, welfare of civil servants, reliable and credible means of transportation and job creation in the state under Gov Amaechi administration.
The ACN also regrets the total breakdown of party machinery in the ruling party, which has unfortunately abdicated its observatory and corrective role to a few cabal who now mislead the entire state.
In no wise is this misfortune so prominent than in bogus and wide elephant projects like the Monorail, Greater Port Harcourt City by the Amaechi led government which even at embryonic stage have engulfed billions of naira and may never be realized before and after the life span of this administration, the ACN noted.
“The issue is not many years of uninterrupted democracy which particularly tickles the fancy of PDP, but how the democracy has impacted people’s lives positively and set up agenda for good governance and social justice, evolved a society devoid of chronic greed for materialism, corruption and inequality etc”, the ACN stated, stressing that these are ideals of a democracy without which there will continue to be poverty in the land and distrust as a recurring decimal.
The ACN however congratulated the entire Rivers people and Nigerians alike for their patience and understanding and pleaded for more prayers and perseverance in the hope that good must eventually triumph over evil.
