Communities To Manage NDDC Completed Projects

Henceforth beneficiary Local Governments and Communities of Niger Delta Development Commission’s projects will shoulder the post completion management, staffing, maintenance and security of such project.
This was part of a nine point communiqué issued at the end of a one-day stakeholder’s forum organised by the Presidential Monitoring Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission in Port Harcourt.
To strengthen the decision, the forum recommended interaction between the commission and beneficial communities in determining the relevance and location of proposed projects through Town Hall meetings.
It added that NDDC should liaise with the relevant states and local government at project conception stage to avoid duplication urging the Commission to prioritized the completion of abandoned projects across the region.
While advising NDDC to support water transportation in the region, it advocated the sanctioning of defaulting contractors and consultant by the Commission over sub-standard job and project abandonment.
The communiqué signed by the Acting Chairman of PMC, Prof. Richard King and Dr. Christian Oboh, Managing Director, NDDC, urged the Commission to engage competent and qualified contractors in the execution of projects.
Feasibility studies and environmental impact assessment it emphasized, should be conducted before any mega project is carried out and sued for regular convening of stakeholders’ forum.
